The Soundtrack to Sordid Lives, an independent movie, in which
Olivia played a Texan ex-con bar-fly singer. The soundtrack includes her five songs and
Trust Yourself from her album Gaia as well as tracks from other
artists.
The title track, written by Margot Rose and Beverly Nero who were in
the original play, is a highlight. Olivia is even heard to sing the word bitch! Musical
backing to this track is provided by the John Farnham band who Olivia has toured with
(this track was recorded during her 199 Summer tour of the USA). The traditional
hymns showcase Olivia's crystal clear voice in particular Will the Circle Be Unbroken?
The writer/director Del Shores writes a sweet note in the linear
notes about his friendship with Olivia (they first met in 1985 when Olivia came to one of
his plays).
The tracks also include dialogue from the movie which works better
once you've seen the movie. Honorary mention must also go to George S Clinton for the
musical composition, Kacey Jones and Bobbie Eakes for a wonderful country twang on Better
A Painful Ending, Than An Endless Pain. A DVD
was also released in 2003.
