Staring Olivia Newton-John & Georgie Fame, produced and directed Buddy Bregman
"I feel that I did it so one could view it in any century", (Buddy Bregman's comment Dec 20 2005)
This is a treat, it's an all singing all dancing Minstrel show. A group of performers perform Minstrel style at the historical sites of Vale of York, Castle Howard, Castle folk museum, Fountains Abbey and Railway museum with some parts done at Twickenham Film and TV Studios.
Made in 1973 this could just as well be 1873 or earlier. The plot & theme of this show is actually a troop of Minstrel performers going back to a time when the Train Museum, Castle and Abby ETC were in their former glory. Enjoying themselves singing and dancing in a "minstrel way" as if it was still the good old days.
Olivia sings some cool songs. Olivia walks around with a fur coat singing
Scarborough Fair (ed note - Olivia no longer wears fur), like it could
have been 100 years ago & it's something special. Just as much fun is Olivia
and Georgie rocking out as a couple to YEH YEH and a nice duet of Will You Still
Love Me Tomorrow.
I also enjoyed the way Olivia sings and moves during All I Need. Georgie Fame
fans have something to enjoy too, with Georgie singing about food and
wanting more.
Buddy did a great job with this. Apart from Olivia being in it, I like the camera angles and the costumes and scenery that go with the cool singing.
If like me you just think of this as 1973 you won't get the full meaning of it, So just put yourself back in time to centuries past and enjoy. At the same time watch Olivia singing to a donkey!
