Olivia put cancer mission above fame

Sir Cliff Richard has praised his pal Dame Olivia Newton-John for putting her career on hold to support women with cancer, during her own 30-year battle with the disease.

The pop star, 82, said of the singer and Grease actress, 73, who died from breast cancer in August: “She gave up singing for…it was may have been 10 or 12 years, just so she could go and speak to women about dealing with cancer.”

“That’s an incredible commitment to people. And that was a major part that made people like us fall in love with her.”

Sir Cliff said Dame Olivia’s zest for life overpowered her health issues. He added: “She was always bubbly.”
