Olivia heading to England in May
CAROL WEST - the stable of entertainers she manages includes singer Lynne Randell and the Cherokees pop group - gave a party at her Malvern home last night.
And there were three reasons for this swinging turn which brought a host of local entertainers together.
Firstly Lynne Randell, discovered by Carol in a hairdressing salon a few years back, is off to America again on Wednesday; Olivia Newton-John and Pat Carroll are back from their success as a singing duo in the UK with new plans; and finally Carol was celebrating her birthday.
Carol, it seems, has the knack of picking personalities for the local stage and television scene. And signs are that she is soon to branch out further in the international scene.
She told me: “Lynne leaves for California next week and I will follow in about five weeks’ time. I have a lot of work to clear up here first …”
“In America I have to sort out visas as I want to take an English singer to America, and also there is an Australian group I would like to get over there.”
Two years ago Carol first took Lynne to America where she was an immediate hit and was signed on by a U.S. recording company. Lynne later went on an America-wide tour with the Monkees but visa problems brought her home.
This time Lynne has a visa so she can work on television there. “She had guest spots on American television last time but could not be paid as she hadn’t the right visa. The unions would have been up in arms. This time she will be paid,” said Carol.
Full of enthusiasm and expecting to be away until “Christmas at least,” Lynne has her eye on a spot in the Dean Martin show.
Meanwhile Olivia Newton-John and Pat Carroll are working on individual singing acts. Pat has lined up television appearances and Olivia has stage and night club spots.
But in May Olivia also has travel plans and will return to her family in England.</strong>
