Olivia Album review

OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN has chosen some interesting songs for her new LP “Olivia” (Interfusion ITFL 34658).

They include ballads from George Harrison, James Taylor and Paul Simon, “Why You Don’t Write Me” by Paul Simon comes out well. “Mary Skeffington” sounds well but others, like “Angel of the Morning,” stretch Miss vocal Newton-John’s equipment too far in the wrong direction.

I found this uncomfor-table to listen to. A plaintive sound is all right but when it gets to the point when you worry whether the singer can articulate, I turn it off.

This disc, by the performer who started in Australia, was made in England.
