Olivia to appear at Mayo Civic Auditorium April 26 1974

A musical doubleheader featuring vocalist Olivia Newton-John and the New Christy Minstrels will be staged at 7 p.m. April 26 in Mayo Civic Auditorium Theater.

Olivia Newton-John, from Wales and later Australia, appeared on the music scene in 1971 when she recorded her first single, “If Not For You.” Her current hits are “Let Me Be There,” and “If You Love Me Let Me Know.”

She was in the United States recently for a guest appearance in the Dean Martin television show.

One of her singles, “Banks of the Ohio,” earned her a Silver Disc in the United Kingdom for more than a quarter million sales.

The New Christy Minstrels, formed in 1961, have entertained audiences throughout the world. The group, known as one of the most versatile acts in show business, performed in Rochester in 19064 and again in 1965 before packed houses in Mayo Civic Auditorium.

Their single of “Green Green” sold more than three million records. The Minstrels once had a weekly television show on NBC.

Among the members of the group on its present tour is Jonathan Johnson of New York City, who was cast in the leading role of Claude in the Broadway production of “Hair.”

The musical show is being promoted here by Ben Sternberg.

Advance tickets are on sale for $4 at the auditorium box office, Huey’s Cigar Store, Weber and Judd (Masonic Temple Building) or Dayton’s, where they can be charged.

Tickets sold at the door on the night of the performance will be $5.
