Trailers for Olivia opening for Charlie Rich at Allentown Fair

The best in country music will be heard Aug. 4-5 at The Allentown Fair when Charlie Rich and his show perform on the grandstand stage. Appearing with the former Arkansas cotton picker for two shows nightly will be two other award winners, Brush Arbor and Olivia Newton-John.

Rich and his recordings dominated the Academy of Country Music Awards last March in Nashville. The piano playing singer was chosen male vocalist of the year and his recording of “Behind Closed Doors”, took album of the year and single of the year honors.

The silvery-haired Rich also dominated the Hot Country LP’s chart in Billboard’s April 20th issue. He held the three top spots. “There Won’t Be Anymore” was No. 1, “Behind Closed Doors,” on the chart for 52 weeks, was second, and “Very Special Love Songs” was third. In addition, Rich had another in 15th place, “Fully Realized.” His “A Very Special Love Song” was first on the Hot Country Singles.

Brush Arbor, six talented young men, have been performing only two years and at Nashville won the top vocal group and touring band of the year awards. They have been on Dean Martin’s Music Country on NBC.

Miss Newton-John brings beauty as well as loads of talent to the show. This British import is relatively new to country music but last month most promising female vocalist. On Billboard’s Hot Country Singles April 20 Miss Newton-John was listed 70th for her “If You Love Me (Let Me Know).”
