Nominated for four Country Music Awards

Fourfold honors

LONDON (AP) - Olivia Newton-John, the English-born country and western singer, said Monday she was stunned at the news she had been nominated for four awards by the American Country Music Association.

“I am honored by the nominations,” said the 26-year-old singer. “To be nominated for one award is an honor. To be nominated for four is unbelievable.”

She is to receive the awards, including entertainer of the year, in Nashville, Tenn.

Miss Newton-John, who appeared at the Allentown Fair last August, said she started singing at 15 and almost overnight has become a star in country and western music. Her latest record, “I Honestly Love You,” is at the top of American charts.

“I have had no musical training,” she said. “I just began singing.”

She was born in England, but at age 5 went to Australia when her father was named a professor at Melbourne University. She and her mother came to England to live in 1966 when Olivia was 18.
