Olivia Newton-John plans BYU appearance Friday 17th January 1975

Good concert seats are still first available for the appearance on the Brigham Young University campus by singing star Olivia Newton-John The concert is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 17, in the Marriott Center and is sponsored by the ASBYU Social Office, Leonard Lee, vice president. The public is invited to attend, and tickets are available at the Marriott Center ticket office. Showtime is 9p.m.

Preceding Miss Newton-John will be guitarist and pop-folk singer Kenny Rankin.

Winner of the “Grammy” award as the best female country vocalist last year. Miss Newton-John was the first British singer to ever receive that award.

The beautiful singer has earned five gold records and one platinum album in the United States during the past 10 months. Some of her best-known singles include “Let Me Be There,” “If You Love Me, Let Me Know.” and “I Honestly Love You.”

Named by the Country Music Association as the 1974 Female Vocalist of the Year. Miss Newton-John is a native of Cambridge, England, but moved to Australia at age five with her parents. Her father was master of Ormond College there.

She begin publicly performing with three friends at age 14 but disbanded the group because their popularity interfered with schoolwork. She then began a solo act in a local coffee lounge owned by her brother-in-law.

Miss Newton-John entered a talent contest, won it and a trip to London. In 1971 she recorded her first single in England. “If Not for You An album followed and then another successful single earning her a Silver Disc in Britain and a Gold Disc in Australia.
