Olivia Newton-John, winner of this year’s Grammy award for Best Female Country Artist, will appear in concert Saturday in the Spectrum at 8 p.m.
The British-born and Australia-raised recordng artist has earned five gold records and a platinum album in the last ten months. This is her second tour of the United States.
Olivia began her recording career in England in early 1971 with the single “If Not For You” which hit the pop charts in the U.S., England and Australia. By 1972 she had become a regular guest on British TV and launched her American career with three gold singles: “Let Me Be There,” “If You Love Me, Let Me Know” and “I Honestly Love You”.
The attractive singer has also been named the Most Promising Female Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music.
Kenny Rankin, the warm-up act originally scheduled for the concert was forced to cancel when his wife entered the hospital Thursday but he will be replaced by Comedian Fred Smoot, ASUSU Cultural Vice-president Buzz Thurber said.
