Have You Never Been Mellow album review

OBTAINING stardom is one thing, retaining it quite another. With her latest album, Olivia Newton-John has sealed her claim.

“Have You Never Been Mellow?” is a fine collection of songs written by Tom Jans, John Denver, Rick Nelson and Albert Hammond, with production by John Farrar. The only thing the album lacks is more pictures of Olivia.

If your particular favorites by Olivia are on the ballad side then this album contains some songs that will be favorites of yours in the future.

The Hollies’ hit, “The Air That I Breathe” is given new breath. Two songs penned by John Denver, “Goodbye Again” and “Follow Me,” are sung as if they were written for her in the first place.

Another outstanding quality of the album is that she has not abandoned up-tempo material. In fact there are two such cuts that could do well as single releases, ‘Water Under the Bridge” and “It’s So Easy,’ the latter being the better.

“Have You Never Been Mellow?” (MCA-2133) is sure to be a top five album.
