Have You Never Been Mellow review
Have You Never Been Mellow - Olivia Newton-John (MCA 2133).
This woman keeps turning out hits like it’s the easiest thing to do. And, with this album, she finally sustains some of better moments of her singles for more than one or two tracks.
On earlier works her big single was always far and away stronger than the rest of the album, but this time around she is offering a more complete listening experience. One reason for this is a good choice of material for an easy listening pop album: songs by Tom Jans, Rick Nelson, John Denver and her producer John Farrar provide the kind of catchy, smooth frame work she needs to do her act.
Olivia Newton-John is not a significant singer in terms of technique or interpretation. But she does offer a certain singularity in style and presentation that is making her popular indeed. This album is a worthy investment for those that enjoy what they bear from ber on the radio.
