Specials are easy as ABC

ABC has cleared its primetime schedule Wednesday for a trio of specials featuring light entertainment.

Ice champion Dorothy Hamill glides into the spotlight at 7 p.m. to launch the evening. (Details of her show are on page 24.)

The next hour is John Denver's, featuring the composer-singer accompanied by the Starland Vocal Band. His guests are Dennis Weaver, Joanne Wood-ward and the shark from Jaws.

The country theme continues at 9p.m. when Australia's Olivia Newton-John climaxes the evening with an hour of her country and western songs on A Special Olivia Newton-John.

Born in Cambridge, England, and reared in Australia, Ms. Newton-John, the granddaughter of Nobel Prize-winning physicist Max Born, began singing in her early teens. She started her career in England and, after a series of hits, toured Europe. Worldwide prominence came in 1973 when she won her first Grammy Award as Best Country Vocalist with the song,Let Me Be There
