OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN is more than just a pretty face. But who would need more with THAT pretty face? Her ABC Special last week was a gem.
Like Liv, as guest Elliott Gould called her, the whole hour was unpretentious, stylish. happily ingratiating.
... The girl can sing, of course... all those hits but her skits
q> (not the dumb black-out kind) revealed a great flair for understated comedy, plus a wide range of acting talent.
The bit showing that every era thought it was the wildest was especially enjoyable and demonstrated that Olivia Newton-John would have been a sensation whatever the time, whatever the music, whatever the mode.
Trying to top-hat-tails dance his way into a spot on her show, Elliott Gould was just right. He and the pretty Liv generate some great chemistry together.

looms even grander in your memory when you think of the pushy hours they've tried to ram down your throat involving Mitzi Gaynor and Ann-Margret, among others.
Somebody got smart. Somebody looked into that lovely face and determined to do a lovely show.
