EMI record company visit to Japan with several gold discs for Olivia, pics

In November last, Mike Heatley, EMI International’s Licensing Licensing Manager responsible for Japan, visited Tokyo in order to present to the employees of Toshiba-EMI (EMI’s exclusive Japanese licensee) some of EMI Record’s new product for the coming year.

Amongst the artists included in the product presentation were new names Kate Bush, King Harry and Gloria Jones along with established favour-ites Cliff Richard, Be-Bop Deluxe, Strapps and Mr. Big, whose last album Sweet Silence made the Japanese charts, and, of course, Olivia Newton-John who is currently the most successful International artist in Japan with two singles in the Top 20 and no less than five albums in the Japanese Top 100 album chart.

Mike’s presentation to Toshiba-EMI personnel, including the President of the company Mr. N. Takamiya. Director of the International Division, Mr. K. Yeno and Brian Dockery, Regional Director for EMI International Services Limited and representatives of the Japanese music press was obviously a great success as new product from all thirteen artists included has been scheduled for release in Japan in 1977.

Also in Japan recently was the lovely Olivia Newton-John who was presented with no less than nine gold discs for the Japanese sales of her albums First Impressions, Clearly Love, Have You Never Been Mellow, Come On Over, Don’t Stop Believin’ and Crystal Lady, a special double album of her earlier work, and singles Jolene, Don’t Stop Believin’ and Have You Never Been Mellow.
