John Travolta All This and Tatum Too?
Hottest thing off the old Kotter block is, of course John Joseph Travolta of Englewood, N.J. Now re-located into a luxury Hollywood high-rise, 24-year-old JT who has already had two hit singles and three hot LPs, an Oscar nomination and international acclaim for his riveting performance in Saturday Night Fever. has two sure fire hit flicks coming up-and would like to leave “Barbarino” far behind.
A brilliant strategist, John (a high school dropout) has personally masterminded his entire career up to now, and recently he dumped his agents at William Morris (having to give them 10% of everything he earns through 78 to get out of their contract) to sign with ICM’s svengali Sue Mengers, whose stable of winners include: Jack Nicholson, Barbra Streisand and Ryan O’Neal. Travolta’s starring role in Grease ( co-starring lovely Olivia Newton-John in something that looks like a blonde 50’s fright wig) will be followed by an “adult romance” called Moment By Moment and co-starring Lily Tomlin as an unhappy Beverly Hills housewife.
Also on the griddle is a second solo Midsong-International LP which John has been cutting on weekends.
And speaking of adult romances, John would surely like to have one with superstar Shirley MacLaine, but she’s cold-shouldered same leaving our hero to turn to super-kid Tatum O’Neal for consolation. Yep, that’s right. Tatum O’Neal. Who incidentally, will be galloping your way this summer in International Velvet, a sequel to (then) teenager Elizabeth Taylor’s screen debut National Velvet.
P.S.: In his spare (?) time Travolta is forming a film production company with Jon Voight, Barbra Streisand and James Caan. First flick off the JT assembly line will be The Life of Bugatti, all about the famed race car driver/designer and starring guess who.
