Recently I went to see Grease and was really surprised at the character that Olivia Newton-John played. The only times I have seen her, she always looked like an angel. Could you please tell me something about this young lady? M.W., Windsor.
Don’t let the role that Olivia played confuse you - usually she’s like the proverbial angel sent from heaven above.
Although she moves around in skin-tight satin pants and a low-cut blouse, Olivia wouldn’t be caught dead in that outfit off camera.
Now 29 years old and living in Malibu with her six horses, four dogs and two cats, Olivia was born in Cambridge. England but moved to Australia with her parents when she was five.
She eventually returned to England as a singer where she met her boyfriend and manager Lee Kramer. Since then they’ve been keeping company on and off She admits she’s a one-man lady and will probably never change.
As far as the rumors about Travolta and Olivia getting more than friendly during that time they were filming Grease. Olivia denies it vehemently, adding that she hates to think that people are so simple minded.
Marriage is on her mind because she would like to have a child, but she would never try to have one outside marriage - she’s just too old fashioned for that.
Olivia was scheduled to tour Japan for a concert in October but refused to go when she heard 1500 dolphins had been slaughtered by fishermen there. She also asked friends planning to go there to cancel as well.
John Denver, Chicago and the Carpenters stood behind her and Olivia hoped that those in Japan who were looking forward to the concerts would stop to think what they are doing and change.
They did exactly that. The Japanese government assured her that dolphin slaughter would stop immediately, so her tour is back on.
Olivia says she enjoyed her role in Grease immensely and thinks her cheerleader days may be gone forever.
