Olivia Newton-John
Issue No 20
As a member of a teen group put together by clever businessmen, the singer, who grew up in Australia, first appeared in 1970.
When the group failed to make it, the pretty Olivia quickly secured a recording contract as a solo artist. Cliff Richard and the Shadows took care of the sweet blonde, who shortly thereafter had a No. 1 hit in America with the Dylan song “If Not For You.”
But this was only the beginning: After further smash hits like “Banks of the Ohio” and “Let Me Be There,” Olivia Newton-John was voted the best country singer of the year in 1974.
As John Travolta’s film partner in the musical “Grease,” Olivia also immediately broke into the big screen, and her duet song with Travolta, “You’re The One That I Want,” became one of the biggest worldwide hits of 1978.
