OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN-A Painful Lesson In Stardom!
Teen-dream stars like Shaun Cassidy and John Travolta have learned what happens when you're day! a superstar with an audience of young, exuberant fans, but Olivia Newton-John got her first lesson during the promotion of Grease.
Olivia joined Grease producer Allan Carr to attend the Chicago premiere of her first film. She knew that a number of fans were eagerly awaiting the event, but didn't worry since numerous police men were on hand to protect the young star. What no one had counted on was the crowd of nearly 3000 spectators that turned out for the event. When Olivia and Carr arrived in their limousine, the eager fans rushed to get a closer look, mobbing the car and sweeping away the police protection in the process.
Ms. Newton-John found herself in the position of the football in the middle of a tackle. Once she managed to get inside the theatre, she appeared to be all right. But Carr reported that not more than ten minutes into the movie, Olivia began to complain of rib pains. Companions saw to it that she made a fast exit and returned her to her hotel room where a doctor was summoned. The doctor's verdict: two fractured ribs (which were immediately taped), compliments of her adoring, but over-excited fans.
The pretty Australian singer learned a painful lesson, and decided that it was an experience she would not care to repeat. She had been planning to attend the sock hop
that Carr was throwing to promote the film, but decided to pass, since she'd had all the star adoration
she could take for one day!
