I Never Was An Angel!
Olivia Newton-John is the world's absolute female superstar. Her role as the female lead in the film Grease
as Travolta's partner made her a female vocalist whose albums are at the top of the charts all over the world. Platinum and gold albums are coming like a conveyor belt and Grease
has already broken the audience records of Saturday Night Fever
all over the world.
Jyrki Hämäläinen followed Olivia in Stockholm, where the world star was amazed at Suosikki's
high-quality print and received the coveted Suosikki Grand Prix award, which she had won as a double winner in our reader's vote.
Olivia was pleasantly surprised and thanked everyone who voted for her for the magnificent crystal trophy. And now Suosikki
brings you Olivia Newton-John, a world star and myth, who demonstrated an incredibly high level of artistic competence.
Olivia is every boy's ideal teenage girl
, said Suosikki photographer Fred Ohert. For sure!
Despite the fact that Olivia is a grown woman like the Abba girls, Farrah Fawcett and Cheryl Ladd. The thing is, all the super-female stars in the world belong to the thirty-something club when it comes to age.
I can't be a teenage girl my whole life
, laughed Olivia, whose entrée or perhaps entrecote discotheque (?) at the Atlantic was so amazing that at first the press fell silent for several minutes, especially the male press, and I must say that Olivia looks even better in person than in the pictures, which is already incomprehensible.
Of course, you have to appear lovely to the eye. Olivia announced that she is a fairly ordinary bachelorette girl who, in keeping with her country star image, pampers her horses, cats and dogs on her farm in Malibu.
The press thinks I'm a boring subject because I don't use drugs, I rarely drink even a drop of alcohol, I don't have any accidents. I'm interested in peaceful work and home life
About work? Olivia's jobs
have lasted 15 years, as Livvy, who just turned 30, has been supporting herself with music from a young age, even if we were to sloppily veer towards clichés.
Currently, Olivia is absolutely the most successful vocalist in the world: You're The One That I Want
, Summer Nights
, Hopelessly Devoted To You
and the Grease LP have sold tens of millions of copies worldwide. And already Grease
has overwhelmingly beaten the records of Saturday Night Fever
.
I don't understand how some people take Grease too seriously. They think it's some kind of social study, and don't realize that it's a 50s musical made with 70s methods,
Olivia wondered.
Fortunately,
Grease
has received overwhelming audience-popularity all over the world and many very laudatory reviews - and even very stingy critics. For example, the New York Times praised my performance as Sandy
and that was already a lot, because the New York Times reviewer criticizes almost 80% of all films. So I am happy.
Editor note: the next couple of paragraphs do not make sense. the magazine is talking about John Rostill who was accidentally electrocuted by his guitar, or took his own life, no one knows for sure. Olivia has never dated him, he was only a friend and he wrote a few of Olivia's hits.
Photo caption: Cliff Richard and Olivia's romance was rumored until Olivia moved to the USA.
The Shadows have played a large part in Olivia's life. On the left is John Rostill, who committed suicide shortly after he and Olivia broke up. On the left is Bruce Welch, to whom Olivia was engaged for a long time.
We had been very close and our relationship was beautiful. When the stories started after his death that I was the cause of it, I felt like I couldn't breathe! I was being called a murderer by some and you can only imagine how I felt. I had tried to live a life where no one would get hurt, no one would get harmed and everything could be shock. We had been very close and our relationship was beautiful. I had tried to live a life where no one would get hurt, no one would get harmed and everything would be happy.
And yet, in return for this, I hear the strangest hints. John's death was perhaps the greatest tragedy of my life for many reasons, and that's why I wouldn't like to talk about it any more. I've tried to recover from it and I'm still not sure if I'm completely
over it
yet.
Well, let's get back to professional matters after this. In music, you've achieved almost everything today. What do you think about the future?
I haven't achieved everything, or at least I don't feel that way. Of course, I've earned a lot of money, I have gold records and other worldly recognition for my work, but as an artist I'm still at the beginning of my journey
.
It seems a bit exaggerated. Can you elaborate?
I mean, when I started out, I was one of the girls in a group who sang with the others. When I moved to England, I was made into one of the many pretty girls who, thanks to the big boys, even got to sing on a record, but whose best part was performing in good-looking clothes. Then when I moved to America and became successful, I was labeled a country girl and real country fans considered it sacrilege.
After changing my style towards pop music, I was not completely accepted there either. Now I have tried my to spread my wings with films and received fairly good reviews. My album sales have never been this good. My tours, where I perform... um... without Travolta... are also selling well. Maybe I am now more widely accepted than ever. But now I want to develop and show that my former critics were wrong. I want to show that the little pretty girl who few believed in will be a good
entertainer
who does not fit any label or who can adopt any aspect of anything
So your goal is to become a female Elvis?
After that statement, it seemed natural that your interest would be focused on film after this, because that is where you have the least experience. Is this true? Your ambition and determination really impress me, if I may say so. Is this perhaps the reason why the marriage market doesn't seem to be opening up for any man for you? Namely, marriage is essential for children. They need a good start, a safe home, real parents. And I really love children and want to have many of them. However, I have promised myself that if... no, when the time comes, I must have the opportunity to give my children the same childhood as my own parents did. That is, a balanced and happy one. Then they will have the provisions for their lives. If that means comparing yourself to his professionalism and versatility, then yes. Note - I didn't say that I am like Elvis professionally! Whether I will ever become a singer like him is another matter.
In a way it is. Or let's say half. I am also very interested in my own show and its development. As I said, an
entertainer
is a performer who must not remain just a mere image on film, but must also demonstrate that he or she can entertain the public live
. That is why tours and Las Vegas-type performances will be a regular part of my repertoire in the near future. But film work interests me of course and discussions are currently underway about an interesting English film project called Street Messiah
. If those plans come to fruition, I will be acting with John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen and I really hope to get that chance! The market! What a saying! No... I don't know or can't say. I am really interested in my work at the moment and therefore I feel that marriage is not yet the right state for me. And it is in this place and at this moment that I can assure you that I want to get married when I know that I have the right man with whom I want to have children.
Or they can also rise to become a superstar like you!
A silly remark, if I may say so. Being a superstar means nothing compared to being able to be in balance with yourself and enjoy your life outside of all the fuss that goes with this
.stardom
and work. That is the goal that I would like future children to achieve, because - thank God - that is exactly what happened to me
Photo caption: As late as 1960, Bruce Welch was happily married to his wife Anne. Ten years later, the marriage ended in divorce when Olivia entered the picture.
