Hospital silent about condition of singer

It was later revealed that Olivia had hepatitis.

More from Olivia's performance at the 51st Academy Awards, The Oscars of Hopelessly Devoted To You.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (UPI).

Singer Olivia Newton-John apparently remains hospitalized but hospital officials refuse to discuss the entertainer’s condition or a possible release date.

A spokeswoman for St. John’s Hospital said orders had been given to refuse to answer all inquiries about Miss Newton-John. The singer’s representatives could not be contacted.

Miss Newton-John was hospitalized Wednesday - for what a spokesman called “routine tests” after running a fever for several days and ignoring doctors’ warnings not to sing at the Academy Awards ceremonies a week ago.

She was expected to be released “in a couple of days,” he said then.

It was at first thought she had a liver problem, but this was ruled out, the spokesman said, but the nature of her illness was not announced.

Miss Newton-John was told not to perform at the Oscar awards Monday night when she first reported feeling ill, but she insisted on keeping an engagement to sing a song from her hit movie “Grease,” the spokesman said.
