The Australian who dresses the superstars

Take Olivia Newton-John, Rod Stewart, Chicago’s Peter Frampton, Donna Summer, and ELO and they all have one thing in common a pretty Australian fashion designer, who they describe as a “untapped talent.”

Seven years ago Australian fashion designer, Fleur Thiemeyer, went to America for a holiday, she was introduced to Olivia Newton-John and started a career as fashion designer and co-ordinator to some of the greatest names in show business.

This week she arrived back home with Olivia Newton-John and for the first time has talked about the superstars with whom she often spends 24 hours a day.

Said Olivia Newton-John: “Fleur and I are like sisters. We work together, play together and generally have a great time As far as I am concerned she is just brilliant and one of the world’s untapped talents.”

For more than seven years Fleur has worked alongside Olivia. She has faced both the ups and downs of the Australian superstar’s ride to fame.

She’s also been credited for turning Olivia from the girl-next-door image to a sex symbol appealing to literally millions.

Said Fleur: “Olivia is a great lady, she has a beautiful figure and she looks best in black, white or red. Blondes always look good in black and we always try to capitalise on this.”

The lady, who has been credited with introducing to the world the latest fashion craze the leotard said. “When we first dressed Olivia in the outfit for Grease, we never realised it would have become an overnight sensation.”

When asked what sort of men appeal to Olivia, she said: “The men in Olivia’s life have to be strong. It’s personality that counts more than looks.”

“I don’t think Olivia would go along with a guy who is not strong. She often is conscious of the fact that she has made it and deep down she likes her men to be successful.”

“Olivia is not a person who has always got to be with men. She loves her private life and her family. We go horse-riding together on her property and have barbecues together.”

“She’s an incredibly generous person and yet a very private person. I also see her as being a mass-produced person and accept her that way as the artist she is.”

“But we go to the movies together and play tennis together. I see her in shorts and jeans. This is the real Olivia New-ton-John.”

“Olivia and I have had some very proud moments together. One of them was appearing in the Royal Charity Concert at the Sydney Opera House, the other proud moment of her life was when she walked into Buckingham Palace to collect her OBE.

“Other proud moments was when she got her No 1 hit. I remember driving into Vegas to do a show and we suddenly Olivia’s name up in the lights.”
