In late 1978, the world was captivated by two people: JOHN TRAVOLTA and OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN. The movie ‘GREASE’ turned out to be one of the biggest hits of all time, and even your grandmother didn’t have to think twice if you asked her who John Travolta was (you should have tried Mick Jagger!). After that, the whole Grease thing collapsed overnight, and now? John and Olivia are back, with ‘URBAN COWBOY’ and ‘XANADU’ respectively!
‘Xanadu’: the beautiful KIRA, daughter of the supreme god Zeus, descends to earth with her eight sisters to make their dreams come true. Some of Kira’s dreams come true when she meets a record cover designer on earth who falls head over heels in love with her….
A musical film that continues to captivate from beginning to end, ‘Xanadu’, Olivia now finally has the real lead role and no longer has to compete with John Travolta. At a thunderous party after the American film premiere, Olivia said: “In ‘Xanadu’ I have to act much more than in ‘Grease’. There I walked across the screen and sang a few songs, but here I have much more space to act, sing and dance. And that’s what the audience expects of me.”
Of course Olivia posed with MIKE BECK, for whom ‘Xanadu’ is supposed to be his breakthrough. He already played important roles in ‘THE WARRIORS’ and the TV series ‘HOLOCAUST’.
By the way, LEIF GARRETT also made an appearance at this premiere party. Cher wore a stunning leather suit that turned heads. Also present were Olivia’s ex-boyfriend, but still manager, Lee Kramer, and her producer, John Farrar (of the Shadows), and of course, Electric Light Orchestra also appeared.
In September ‘Xanadu’ will be released in Dutch cinemas.
