Olivia nixed bridesmaid job
Olivia Newton-John unhappily had to turn down her friend, Karen Carpenter's invitation to be a bridesmaid at Karen's Aug. 31 wedding to Tom Burris. Because Olivia must leave on Aug. 15 for the Australian premier of the movie, "Xanadu," and is not certain she will be back in time for the wedding, she's afraid to commit herself to the wedding procession, as much as she would like to be a part of it. She hopes to get back by the 31st to at least be a guest.

Because of the current strike, the Screen Actors Guild now prohibits personal appearance tours by stars for films and TV shows completed before the strike. This means that Olivia Newton-John may well be a bridesmaid for her friend, Karen Carpenter, after all, if she is not permitted to leave on her scheduled "Xanadu" promotion trip to Australia on Aug. 15.
Ed - Olivia attended Karen's wedding on August 31st 1980 but was not a bridesmaid. Olivia did catch the wedding bouquet though.
