Olivia's 1981 visit to Holland
Translation from Dutch:
HOW DO YOU KEEP UP WITH IT, Olivia?
Olivia Newton-John finds one downside to being famous is that she usually has those incredibly tiring and long days. Days where she truly yearns for peace and quiet. Still, the blonde singer/actress is happy to do it.
We already knew that being an artist involves a busy life. But we recently discovered that such an artist’s existence is even more tiring than we always thought when we spent a day with the incredibly popular Olivia Newton-John.
A few weeks ago, the singer flew from London to the Netherlands especially for some television recordings, where we were waiting for her at Rotterdam Airport Zestienhoven. There wasn’t much time for conversation, however, because after Olivia accepted a large bouquet of flowers from the director of her record company and signed countless autographs for her fans, she boarded a large black limousine that took her to her destination, the Hilton Hotel in Utrecht.
“So, I want to catch my breath here first,” Olivia sighed, as she flopped into a luxurious armchair. “I’ve been busy packing suitcases and such since 6 o’clock this morning, and that really gets to you!”
And the young actress took a sip of her tea, which the waiter had placed on the table in front of her. Despite her fatigue, Olivia looked in good shape. And that was, of course, thanks in no small part to the success of her singles “Physical” and “Landslide.”
But Olivia didn’t want to enjoy her rest for very long, as shopping was also on the agenda that day.
An hour later, the singer returned, overjoyed, laden with bags and packages.
“You have such nice clothes in Holland!” she laughed. “I immediately bought a whole new wardrobe!”
ith a happy face, she climbed back into the limousine fifteen minutes later: off to the television studio. A program was being recorded there, with Olivia as a guest and film actress Monique van de Ven as presenter.
That same evening, those LV recordings were watched by several million Dutch people. But by then, Olivia was already on the plane home, where she could finally relax after that busy day.
Because the life of an artist is tiring. And without a safe haven, no star could sustain this for long.
