Physical album review
ABBA’s “The Visitors” and “Physical” by Olivia Newton-John both mark drastic changes at crucial times for both of these artists. It’s because they are pop artists. Yet, rock stations, especially rock FM stations, won’t touch either of these records, which are more rocking than usual.
Even Olivia’s TV special was highly rated, so her old fans must be stringing along with her new style, but I know she has new listeners too.
Actually, if ABBA had been more adventurous, they might have gained new listeners. But no, the album was not as big a success as anticipated, this was probably due to the fact that side two was the usual insipid ABBA drivel.
Nevertheless, both ABBA and Olivia Newton-John have released two equally good albums, and I’d recommend them to anyone who has liked both artists, or has any interest in these albums.
You know when someone like Olivia changes, that a biggie is on the way. Maybe it will even be from ABBA next time.
