Oh What A Night, Logies 82
World Stars Glitter...And For Olivia And Rod It Was Home
LOGIE TIME always means international stars in town, but this year it also meant two triumphant homecomings. Knockout of the night was Olivia Newton-John.
Attending - indeed, seeing - a Logie right for the first time, Liv stole the show with her bracket of two numbers, Make A Move On Me and Falling.
Then she stepped out for the final three awards and her charm had high-flying Burt Newton in scintillating form especially when, with a yelp of joy, she announced Bert as the Gold Logie winner.
After the Logies Olivia could have asked for the keys to the city and got them.
The Seven Network couldn’t tell people often enough that her recent high rating special, Physical, would be repeated in Melbourne at 7.30 pm on March 26 and an hour earlier in Sydney the next day.
Not far behind Liv in the homecoming stakes was Rod Taylor, showing off his golf socks under his dinner-suit trousers. Rod is in Australia to make a movie, On The Run.
One of the greats of the old Australian movie days and now a top Hollywood star. Rod was a worthy and very popular Logies guest.
Tossing it with the two home comers, and show stealer of the night, was Hollywood tough guy Ernest Borgnine. Ernest and his wife, Tove, have won the hearts of Australians everywhere they have been.
Stunning Swedish star Britt Ekland had the blood of every man in the audience racing. In a hugging white outfit split very high, she looked great in the telecast. Then she changed to a flashy green and gold for the after-Logie party.
Another popular guest was The Incredible Hulk actor, Lou Ferrigno. A gentle giant, Lau stood up to the sharp-tongued Bert and won the hearts of the audience with his genuine attitude to life
Also in the overseas brigade was handsome Vegas star Robert Urich and pretty young Genie Francis, from the General Hospital series.
