Olivia at Phar Lap Premiere

Top left photo: Two horse lovers have a nag: Liv Newton-John and Heath Harris, who trained Towering Inferno for his lead role in Phar Lap.

By the end of the day I was convinced I must have witnessed the most remarkable social occasion in Australia since the big champ won the Melbourne Cup in 1930.

Mmm. It wasn’t that, but it was enormous fun, with a few cleansing glasses of Phar Lap champagne helping most guests to view la party en rose. As it was held on various levels, there levels, there was this desperation about not missing the best action and you were constantly moving back where you were 10 minutes before, only to get the flash that Olivia Newton-John was now elsewhere.

Speaking of Liv (that’s what the in-crowd call her…at first I thought Liv Ullmann had returned), Ian Parry-Okeden and I were dancing alone on the floor that covered the indoor pool and later we were told she had been watching.

Before you declare me a show-off, I will add that I slipped and went down for the count, so her offer of a part in Grease III is not likely to be forthcoming now.
