Olivia's new relatives not used to publicity

MILWAUKIE - Jeanette and Charles Lattanzi of this Oregon town have had to cope with a relentless barrage of questions from reporters around the world.

Maybe it’s their new daughter-in-law’s name Olivia Newton-John.

“We’re not used to all this notoriety. I hope we’re handling it OK,” said Lattanzi as he took a phone call from the London Daily Mail.

It all started after the Lattanzis traveled to Malibu, Calif., to watch Newton-John and their son, Matt, in “a very simple and beautiful wedding” for close friends and family at her home, Jeanette Lattanzi said.

All eight of the other Lattanzi sons and daughters also attended. “One thing that amused us was that Livvy’s (Olivia’s) favorite dog, Jackson, was in attendance. He’s a big Irish setter. During some parts of the ceremony he stood by her side,” Jeanette Lattanzi said.

She said her 25-year-old son met Newton-John, 36, about five years ago when he landed an extra’s part in the film “Xanadu.”

Since then he has had roles in “Skatetown USA,” “Grease 2,” “My Tutor” and “Rich and Famous,” as well as some TV spots.

Jeanette Lattanzi says she does not view her daughter-in-law in the role of hot-shot superstar.

“Her home is by no means a mansion. It is not a pretentious home, and you feel very much at home in it.” They both are animal lovers and have nine dogs and cats between them, she said.

“Matt and Olivia do a lot of their own cooking-taking turns at it,” his mother said. She added that Newton-John has visited the Lattanzis in Milwaukie several times during the past five years.
