My baby is much more important than a movie
Translation from Dutch:
Olivia Newton-John is going to be a mother in January. And she's so excited about it that she's almost forgotten she's also a singer and actress. Maybe she'll say goodbye to show business for good...
In January, Olivia Newton John hopes to become the mother of a baby. Her longing for a child grew stronger and stronger, which is partly why she married her boyfriend, Matt Lattanzi, last Christmas.
"I'm in my mid-thirties now, and it's high time for my first child," said the very pregnant singer, who desperately wants two children.
For the past four years, it has been eerily quiet around actress Olivia Newton-John. In an exclusive interview via an 18,000-guilder satellite connection between Los Angeles and the NOS complex, Olivia talks about what she has been up to in recent years.
"I starred with John Travolta in the feature film 'Two of a Kind.' A movie was released of that film. I also worked with my girlfriend Nancy Gould on the idea for a new feature film. We sold the idea to a film company, and the script is currently being written. It will be a romantic comedy."
A child must have a father
"For the past two years, I've been busy with my new LP, "Soul Kiss." Luckily, the album and the five accompanying videos were finished just in time. My pregnancy doesn't allow me to work right now. I thought it was high time for a child. I'm now in my mid-thirties, which is the absolute maximum age for a first child. That's also one of the reasons why I married my boyfriend Matt last Christmas. A child must have an official father."
Matt is an actor and has been living with Olivia in Los Angeles for five years.
Why can Olivia only speak to the journalist via satellite?
"I have to have this conversation this way because the doctor says I can't fly any more," she said. "By the way, I really want to focus solely on the baby in the months after I give birth in January. I'll stay at home and I'm looking for a nanny who can help with the baby's care."
Olivia already reveals that she would like to have two children. "It doesn't matter to me whether the first one is a boy or a girl. I would love to have a boy and a girl. I love being with my family. That doesn't mean I'm saying goodbye to my career completely. I would like to continue singing and acting. But I won't work as hard as I used to. In recent years, I've discovered that there's more to life than just work. Loving a man and being a mother gives my life an extra dimension."
If Olivia's film plans go according to plan, the singer/actress will begin filming the new movie next spring. She has already thought about her co-star. "Maybe John Travolta or my husband Matt," says a radiant Olivia, who is wearing her hair back to its old self: sleek, medium-length, blond hair.
Besides motherhood, acting, and singing, Olivia also keeps busy with her little shop, Koala Blue. "I run this little business in L.A. with my former singing partner, Pat Farrar. She's married to my producer. We only sell Australian goods. I'm really enjoying it here in Los Angeles."
Olivia won't be performing any more in the coming months. "It would be too busy. My expectant child is getting most of my attention for the time being, and work has to take a back seat to that," says the remarkably cheerful Olivia.
