A swarm of fabulous cars, an extra police presence specially hired for the event, and all the staff who normally lounged around Paramount Studios — simply admiring the Los Angeles scenery outside their windows — worked flat out that day, even cheering the arrival of stars they hadn't seen in ages.
Paramount was gathering all its stars to celebrate its seventy-fifth anniversary in a truly unique way. The photo we offered our readers across a double-page spread is shown here under the white triumphal arch of the studio entrance. Everyone took their place by strict lottery.
Above, James Stewart (78 years old) and Elizabeth McGomen (25). Below, Ted Damson (39 years old) and Olivia Newton-John (38 years old) take a bite of anniversary cake.
Frank Macuso, president of Paramount, declared excitedly: Usually a feature film becomes a great spectacle, but this is, without a doubt, the greatest spectacle in the city. In the city of spectacles, if we need say more.
Sixty-two actors silently, obediently, without losing their smiles, took their places on the big stage.
