Fight for endangered animals

Translation from Dutch:

Things might be quiet around Olivia Newton John in the Netherlands, but in Australia she’s still a big hit. Besides, the blonde singer has other things on her mind besides hits: her husband Matt Lattanzi, daughter Chloe Rose, and her fight for endangered animals.

The Netherlands has somewhat forgotten Olivia Newton John since the success of the film Grease (starring John Travolta and the hit “Totally Devoted to You”). She once again charted with “Let’s Get Physical,” but after that, it seemed like it was over. That’s only partially true.

Olivia, originally from Australia, has largely retreated to that part of the world, but the blonde singer is still a relentless star there.

Moreover, she’s not making as much of an international impact, because Olivia, too, has discovered over the years that there are more important things in life than singing. Her marriage to actor Matt Lattanzi, more than ten years younger than her, in 1985, for example, brought her true love.

Olivia: “That changed my perspective on the music scene enormously. I suddenly had something much more important to live for. And the birth of our daughter Chloe Rose, who is now two, added to that.”

Olivia and Matt also share another love: for animals. This isn’t just clearly visible on their farm in Australia. Olivia is now also committed to helping endangered animals.

Dolphins, which are very common around Australia, are of particular interest to her. “Of course, that’s not all that special,” she says modestly. “I’m just one of the large group of people who finally see that we’re treating nature very wrongly. And I find the slaughter of those innocent, happy, friendly, and intelligent dolphins truly horrific. So I’m trying to do something about it. Look, it’s easy enough to make a comfortable living off your money once you’ve become famous through movies and hits. But I believe you have an obligation to use that fame to achieve something more important.”
