Olivia Newton-John article

Translation from Dutch:

We've known for years that Olivia Newton-John avoids too much publicity. The arrival of a happy marriage and the arrival of a cheerful child have made the singer and actress even more anxious to shield her private life from prying eyes. The times, like now, when we are granted a glimpse behind the professional curtain, there's usually a clear explanation.

The film Blueberry Hill will be released in March, starring Matt Lattanzi, Olivia Newton-John's young husband. Matt's star isn't exactly shining brightly in the film firmament at the moment and could certainly use some well-aimed support.

That's probably the only reason why he and Olivia threw open the doors of their rural home now and let a journalist into their sanctuary. After all, the previous times the couple had been forthcoming had also been related to important professional developments.

A Quiet Childhood

Olivia explains that she's been more protective of her privacy in recent years than ever before because she's determined to be a good mother.

I didn't wait so long to have children to let show business ruin them, she says fiercely. Over the past few years, I've seen enough around me how difficult it is for two famous people to give a child a normal childhood. We're away from home so often that it's already hard enough for Chloe Rose. I don't want to subject her to having our house run over by all sorts of strangers. She's only two, far too young to understand what's going on. So it's not that I don't understand how important the press can be, and I do know I need publicity. But most of the time, I prefer to keep it outside these walls. There, I'm an actress and singer; here, I just want to be a wife and mother.

Safe Space

To ensure that Chloe Rose would be as unaffected as possible by her parents' celebrity status, Olivia and Matt decided a long time ago that their future would lie in the countryside.

The peace and quiet of the countryside is priceless for a child, says Olivia. Chloe could never be so happy, so healthy in the city. She needs space, and she has plenty of it here. Matt and I also love living the simple life. Let my daughter safely romp around here with the dogs and horses.

She will have the rest of her life to discover what there is to experience out there in the city.

Photo captions: Just because Matt has big movie plans doesn't mean Olivia loves him any less. She thinks he's fantastic in every way.
Olivia and Matt are crazy about each other, they love animals and idolize their little girl Chloe-Rose, who sits so proudly on Dad's back.
