In 1969, stardom whisked a fresh-faced Olivia Newton-John from Melbourne to London in a band called Tomorrow. Now, celebrating her 50th birthday and the 20th anniversary of her hit role in the musical Grease, lovely Livvy’s star appeal is as strong as ever.
In the 70s she had a string of hits-and admirers, from The Shadows’ guitarist Bruce Welch to former manager Lee Kramer, and was even linked to Cliff Richard, whom she joins on stage this month on his Australian tour.
In 1977, settled in California, Olivia’s name was in lights with her hit role in Grease. In 1980 came Xanadu and, finally, true love with co-star, dancer Matt Lattanzi. They married in 1984 and had a daughter, Chloe, in 1986.
By 1992, things had turned sour-her Koala Blue retail empire had gone bust and her father died on the day she learned she had breast cancer. By 1995, she had beaten cancer, but then came divorce from Matt.
These days, the word is that country star Vince Gill is the new man in Olivia’s life.
