For when you want to go out during the day but do not want to look too made up, try applying foundation to the T-zones only, that is, on your forehead, nose, lips and chin. Smooth it out and dust with a light translutant powder for a natural-looking face. I’m fairly lucky with my under eye area (thanks Mum), but if you’re concerned about yours, just use a light concealer.
Asparagus is in season and is one of my favourite vegetables. For maximum flavour and nutritional benefit, simply steam it lightly until just tender. Asparagus contains no fat (provided you don’t smother it in butter), is a good source of folate - recommended for women in their child-bearing years-and there are only 70kJ per 100g serve. It is also a good source of:
The antioxidant vitamina A, C and E Thiamine (B1) and riboflavin (B2)
Minerals such as potassium, inon and phosphorus.
Top surf safety tips
It’s fabulous being back in Australia, beautiful beaches. Having lived near the ocean all my life I have a deep respect for the surf and have ensured my daughter, Chloe, knows how to practise safe surfing. I couldn’t believe there were 64 drownings in the Australian surf last year, and more than 11,000 rescues. This summer Surf Life Saving Australla is pushing for safety through Kellogg’s Surf Safe Summer campaign.
Tea Tonic
I love herbal teas and that they have many medicinal uses, such as helping with digestive problems and headaches. Bat always consult a herbalist or naturopath to find out the correct dosage and combination for your complaint.
Soy good
I eat some form of soy every day I feel it is for my health. Whether it’s so milk, tofu of soybeans in casseroles, it’s delicious.
So I was fascinated to see a book called TThe Phyto Factor by Maryon Stewart (Hodder Halline $22.30) which explores the natural power of a diet which in phytoestrogens.
