What I love

Most people have a favourite scent. I love Kenzo, which has a fresh and sensual fragrance. What’s more, I don’t feel dressed without it!

Powder Power

Powder can really enhance your make-up - if used sparingly and correctly. Try to apply your make-up facing a window, as daylight is a true test of how you’ll really look. There are two schools of thought with powder those who prefer loose powder (it has my vote) and those who swear by the pressed variety.

Pressed powder doesn’t spill, which is a big plus, but you need to use a light touch to make sure it doesn’t look like it’s sitting on top of your skin. I think loose powders look more natural and are easier to apply. Whatever you prefer, powder can cover up those features we all love to hate.

To hide a double chin, apply a slightly darker shade to the fatty part. To conceal a long nose, once again use a darker shade on the tip. If your nose is broad, apply dark powder on each side. If you have a powerful jaw, use darker powder just under and above the jawline. To brighten your face, use a bronzing powder across the cheeks, along the nose and around the contours of your face. Make sure the colour is no darker than your chest. Don’t forget to blend.

Fave craves

I have always wondered why we crave some foods and not others. For example, why chocolate and not brussels sprouts?

Apparently, the reason chocolate is so addictive is because of the combined effect of its sweetness, aroma and texture. It also has a sensuous feel once it’s melted in your mouth. This is thanks to the ingredient cocoa butter. Comfort food, usually high in kilojoules, may be associated with childhood contentment and trigger fond memories. Such thoughts may even stimulate calming substances in the brain.

Brussels sprouts, on the other hand, are only appreciated by about one in 10 people. I don’t mind them! Psychologists think that some people have a genetic aversion to bitter-tasting vegies, thanks to highly sensitive tongues which decide that there are, in fact, better things in life!
