Animal Magic
The orang-utans of flomeo and Sumatra will always have a special place in my heart-I’m determined to help save them.
I really admire the work of the World Society for the Protection of Animals, which is battling to protect these magnificent creatures.
I get regular updates on the society’s rescue centres which care for about 150 orphaned and injured orang-utans. I was heartbroken to hear so many had been injured and killed in huge fires over there, and others were made orphans when poachers killed their mothers.
But something is being done now - experts have flown in milk powder, veterinary drugs and surgical kits to help the animals. The aim, though, is to release the creatures back into the wild - which is where they deserve to be.
My dream is that there will always be a place for these orang-utans in the wild, and they will never have to suffer again.
Cosmic colours
I’ve just returned from the supermarket, with a range of brightly coloured vegetables and fruit, as well as my usual grocery items. It’s a bit of an experiment because I’ve been reading about colour energies and food and how red, orange and yellow foods have a stimulating effect, while green and blue foods are pacifying. According to Suzy Chiazzari (The Complete Book of Colour, Element, rrp $39.95), if you’re always eating food of one colour, your body may be craving something within it.
