FAT-FREE FOREVER

I don’t believe diets work, unless they put the emphasis on healthy eating and are combined with exercise.

Former model Dianne Barker, a yo-yo dieter since her teenage years, once tipped the scales at 100kg during pregnancy. Eventually, she threw away her scales and took control. Here are some helpful hints from her book, Fat Free Forever Tips (Random House, rrp $9.95).
Throw away the bathroom scales. To keep a check on your progress, use a tape measure or a pair of jeans that don’t fit.
Enjoy a “junk” day once a week, but keep it to just one meal in that day.
It’s best to eat after exercising. Your metabolic rate is higher then.
The later at night you eat, the smaller your meal should be.
If you’ve been overweight for years, don’t expect to lose it in a few weeks.
Unrealistic goals are another body-shaping enemy. Only promise you’ll do what you know you can do.
Always read the list of ingredients on food packages. The first ingredient on the list is the one with the highest content. Watch carefully for fats and oils.
