International superstar Olivia Newton John comes to Trump Taj Mahal for two magical performances, August 26-27. Olivia Newton-John has remained an international superstar throughout her incredible career that spans over 25 years. She has sold an estimated 50 million records worldwide, produced live #1 pop hits, including “Magic” and “Physical, and 15 Top Ten singles (eight of which have been certified gold and two platinum). Olivia Newton-John has also received four Grammys, numerous CMA, AMA and People’s Choice Awards, and most recently, a 1999 Daytime Emmy Award for penning the song “This Is Our Moment”, wed in the daytime drama As The World Turns. She was also named one of the 100 Greatest Women of Rock & Rock” by VH-1.
Born in Cambridge, England, in 1948 Olivia Newton-John moved to Melbournе, Australia, with her family when she was five. At age twelve she had her first taste of showbiz when she won a Hayley Mills lookalike contest. By the age of 15, she was singing in an all female vocal group called the Sol Four. In 1963, she was appearing on both a local daytime TV show and a weekly pop music program in Australia.
Working in London, Newton-John became part of Cliff Richard’s touring show and appeared on his TV series, It’s Cliff! She charted a top ten hit in England in 1971, a cover of Bob Dylan’s “If Not For You”. Her 1973 debut album, Let Me Be There, produced her first Stateside Top 10 single with the title track “If You Love Me (Let Me Know)” she hit the charts on both the country and pop charts with “If You Love Me.” “Have You Never Been Mellow” and her #1 hit, the Grammy Award-winning, “I Honestly Love You.” She was even named the Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year in 1975.
However, she left country music behind when she donned black leather in the movie Goes (1978). The soundtrack album has sold more than 10 million copies, making it the most successful movie musical and soundtrack in history. The LP Physical produced the number one title track.
In the early 90s, Newton-John released two more albums, Back To Basics and Gaia. After taking some time off to raise her daughter and recuperate from her well publicized battle with breast cancer, Olivia came back energized in 1998 with the release of her 17th career solo album Back With A Heart.
This is Olivia Newton-John’s first U.S. tour date since 1982 and features hits from every stage of her career. A portion of the proceeds from the tour will go to the Children’s Health Environmental Coalition.
