Olivia says no to Mel

Olivia Newton-John has put her foot down on daughter Chioe playing a teenager becoming sexually aware in Mel Gibson’s new movie because she’s only 13! Chloe, who has already embarked on a singing and acting career, had just auditioned in Hollywood when Olivia checked the script, and told her: “You’re not doing this, Chloe. You can’t play this part.”

What got Olivia hot under the collar was a scene in which a boy touches the character’s breasts. He puts his hand up her shirt and fondles her, the script directs.

Olivia thought this was too much for her little girl, says a Hollywood industry source who was at the audition.

“We got a last minute call to say that Chloe would not be available for the part. I suppose Olivia’s reaction is understandable; she knows how she wants to bring up her daughter.”

“In the movie, the character is a 15-year-old virgin thinking about having sex with this boy and Olivia thought it was too advanced for Chloe.”

The film is a comedy called What Women Want and Mel plays a father who can read people’s minds, so he knows exactly what they’re thinking.

“He reads his daughter’s mind and finds out what she’s thinking about-sex! And that she’s on the verge of losing her virginity”, the source reveals.

What Women Want was created by writer-director Nancy Meyers, who also wrote Father of the Bride and the recent remake of The Parent Trap.

“Chloe was very excited at the prospect of getting the part, but she has gone along with her mother’s decision gracefully. She hadn’t read the script in full herself and didn’t know what was in store for her,”

Olivia informed her daughter: “You’re not ready for a part like this, Chloe. It’s far too racy for a 13-year-old.”

But her daughter was a hot tip for the role and being a close Malibu neighbour of Mel in real life, they would have made an all-Aussie ‘family’.
