If Not For You single review

If Not For You single - review 1971

If Not For You (Pye International): Toomorrow never came for Olivia, but George Harrison might weave a little magic. Strangely this is the first cover from George’s “All Things Must Pass” album and as such it must stand a chance. This is the Dylan track with that gorgeous guitar sound which someone (Hank Marvin?) has tried to capture with moderate success.

Olivia is no great shakes as a singer, but she puts the lyric over with charm and grace and wavers little from the original. A great song, and that alone is enough to make this a small hit - which would be nice.
