Olivia Newton-John : “Actress or singer, my best role is being a mom”
She made movies with John Travolta and had numerous hits, some years ago. She’s back with a great song : “The Rumour”.
If you watched “La Cinq” (ed- a now defunct French TV station) some weeks ago, you’ve seen Olivia Newton-John opposite John Travolta in Grease. If the teenager turned into a woman, Olivia is still totally refreshing and talented. Elton John is sure aware of that, since he wrote her latest (and great) song.
OK : It’s been three years now since we saw and heard you in France. Why have you been silent?
Olivia : Because I wanted to take some time for myself. I married Matt Lattanzi, and we now have a daughter, Chloe, who I want to see growing up.
OK : Where do you live?
Olivia : We chose to settle down in a Malibu ranch, on the Californian coast, a little bit further from Hollywood pressure. It’s a big house, surrounded by a park, where we have four horses, seven dogs and four cats.
OK : Wasn’t it too hard to leave this way of life in order to go back to the showbiz extravaganza?
Olivia : To be really honest, yes I had some troubles getting used to it again. But once it started again, I thought it was terrific. Music is what I do best since I was born, and that’s what I really enjoy doing.
OK : But you’re a little far from them now?
Olivia : Not really because my daughter doesn’t go to school yet, so I can take her with me for my promotional trips. As for my husband, if he’s not shooting a movie, he comes with me wherever I am. And we plan to work together. I actually wrote a script that could reunite us on screen.
OK : What do you like to be considered as a singer or actress ?
Olivia : First of all, I’m a woman and a mom. Then, that depends on the opportunities.
OK : How came the idea of this new record with Elton John, “The Rumour”?
Olivia : I met Elton at a party, and I told him how much I admire him. I even dared to tell him that I’d love to sing one of his compositions. Three weeks after that, he called me to make me listen to “The Rumour”. I enjoyed it so much that I almost fainted!
OK : I heard that you had other activities than singing and acting?
Olivia : That is true, I also created a chain of boutiques that sell everything Australian, because I lived in Australia for a long time, and I just launched a fashion line, which is sold in the United States, in Canada and in Japan, I hope it’ll be available in France soon!
OK : Last but no least, Olivia, what are your upcoming plans?
Olivia : To have more children …
