Olivia is on form with her 1998 album - a lovely mix of delicate pop and light country songs. She was indeed back with a heart - beautiful singing complemented with expert production by some of the best names in the business. The result rocks - some great sounds and excellent production making this one one of her best ever!
It is a lovely mixture of the old and the new - Olivia building on the strengths of her vocal sweetness, but with some great nineties songs delivered with maturity and depth. I love the bittersweetness of 'spinning his wheels' - a gorgeous song of love hanging on as long working hours take their toll. There's a poignancy and dreaminess running through the whole album giving it a lovely feel.
I Honestly Love You is a remake of this 1974 success for Olivia - it is slower and changed a lot in style. It doesn't have the breathy freshness of the original - but nearly a quarter of a century of extra life experience gives the 1998 remake a very different, deeper quality. Many critics in the Seventies figured Olivia would never rise above the 'sugary pop' of her early work. Hah - 25 years on shows we have got a real class act here ;-)
The album was re-released in North America in 1998 at a budget price - BWAH re-release sheet
